“Whoops, What I meant to say, it’s eternal night, and you hear spooky music, and the whole area kinda smells like butts and dead people”
We all know about Dungeons and Dragons, the rich story line, the intense role playing, epic quest, and the plot twists…but what happens when your dungeon master is a 13 year old demolitions expert with an addiction to crumpets? The latest DLC (more of an expansion really but you will have to check out Supernova Cast ep.3 to here my thoughts on that) for borderlands 2 adds a rich story, laugh out loud humor, more gear, more quests, and most importantly more joy puking. Assault on Dragon Keep Takes place during some down time for our heroes…and what better to do then to play some Bunkers and Bad-asses (see what they did there? Dungeons and dragons….Bunkers and Bad…..Any way moving on) You play your character being played by the heroes from the original game (Brik, Lilith, and Mordecai) as Tiny Tina directs you through the world she has created. Your goals is to save the beautiful queen from the grasp of an evil wizard and his Handsome Dragons. The worlds literally change in front of you ans Tiny Tina changes her mind on what the player sees! At one point you watch a lush dense forest wither and die, or a dragon change in to a Skeleton Named Mr. Boney pants man… Is nothing as it seems?
“Wait a minute. Those cookies aren’t chocolate chip. Those…are…raisins. WHYYYYYY-HY-HYYYYY?! SHAWTY, DESTROY ALL THE FOOD DISPENSERS! WIPE THE RAISIN ABOMINATIONS OFF THE MAP! I JUST WANTED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES! WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE?”
I am going to be honest here, Big game hunt which was the last DLC, was kind of disappointing…I was honestly thinking that Assault on Dragon Keep was going to be of the same caliber and I wasn’t looking forward to it. This all changed within the first 5 minutes of the DLC…I was so wrong. Assault on dragon keep offered so much of what we love about Borderlands 2 that it was impossible not to like! The story, the characters, the humor, it was all there in full force. On top of the normal Borderlands charm, the developers added a ton of MMORPG, RPG, and fantasy references that just took the cake. in the 4 hours it took to complete the DLC they managed to touch on the appearance of woman armor in games (with some images that are still burnt into my head), Lord of the rings, Warcraft…you name it and there is likely a reference in there. In fact there is even a quest that tasks you with killing another player then tea bagging him…anyone get a flash back to Halo3 just there?
Gameplay is pretty standard as far as Bordrlands 2 goes…That being said they did introduce a few new game play elements! They added shrines, much like the ones in Diablo 2 and 3, that will help you out in one way or another. They are nothing huge but they are a nice touch. The other new element was the addition of puzzles, they were challenging…But if you took to long to solve them your dungeon master gave you an easy way out. This was great for speeding up the game play, but I’m always up for a challenge!
Assault on Dragon Keep is one of the best DLCs for Borderlands 2 and should not be missed!
